About the course

This programme integrates the scientific study of human cognition and behaviour with French language and culture, offering an overseas placement to equip graduates for rewarding careers in the UK and internationally. Accredited by the British Psychological Society, it provides the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership. Students develop a comprehensive understanding of psychology's core themes—such as Brain and Behaviour, Cognitive Psychology, Developmental Psychology, and Social Psychology—while advancing their French proficiency through tailored language modules. In the first year, foundational modules like Understanding and Investigating Psychology introduce key theories, research skills, and language classes based on ability. The second year builds on these with specialist topics in cognitive, developmental, and social psychology, plus Research Methods and Statistics. The third year involves an international placement in a French-speaking country for enhanced language mastery and cultural awareness. Returning for the fourth year, students explore advanced psychology modules and undertake a supervised research project. Opportunities for voluntary work experience through the Psychology Employability Programme further enrich practical skills, as recommended by the BPS. Note that beginners in languages may only study one at that level, limiting other options.
