About the course

In an era of unprecedented technological dependence, preventing cyberattacks, data breaches, and identity theft has become essential for individuals, businesses, and governments. To address this demand, Heriot-Watt University introduced the BSc Computer Science (Cyber Security) programme in 2020. This undergraduate course equips students with a solid foundation in computer science, focusing on cyber security, alongside professional skills to tackle contemporary organisational challenges. The programme covers foundational aspects of networks and computer systems, enabling students to analyse communications, detect alterations, and perform forensic investigations. It also explores secure programming techniques and protective measures like access control, encryption, and intrusion detection. Over the first three years, students complete eight mandatory courses each year, while Year 4 includes five mandatory courses and three electives from available options.
