The Classics course centers on language study, tailored to individual experience, making it accessible for students with prior knowledge of Greek and/or Latin or those new to ancient languages. It offers modules in Latin and Greek, covering prose and verse at levels suited to your background and interests, while contextualizing these languages through the exploration of Greek and Roman cultures. In the first year, you'll establish foundations in key historical periods; in the second, examine the evolution of epic genres; and in the final year, complete a dissertation on a chosen topic, supported by ongoing language work and customized modules.Year 1 core modules include Introduction to the Greek World, which covers ancient Greek history and society, and Monuments and Memory in the Age of Augustus, focusing on Roman history and culture. Additional options may involve topics like Early Greek Philosophy. Assessment encompasses essays, commentaries, translations, presentations, and projects, culminating in a 12,000-word dissertation that demonstrates independent research skills.
