About the course

This course adopts a user-centred approach to designing innovative, sustainable products for mass production, such as furniture, healthcare items, toys, and consumer electronics. It equips students for diverse creative industry roles, including product design, UX design, research, development, modelling, visualisation, and design management. Ranked 8th for Product Design in the Guardian University Guide 2024, the program emphasises hands-on and digital tools in extensive workshops, human-centred research for enhanced user experiences, and optimisation for sustainable manufacturing. Key benefits include studio-based collaboration, access to facilities like laser cutting and 3D scanning, industry-standard digital software, a visiting speaker program with alumni and professionals, and international study opportunities. The curriculum features a common first year, followed by modules in visual language, design practice, and product development, with an optional placement year and a final major project. Assessments mirror industry methods, including reports, coursework, and presentations, to foster technical, professional, and global skills.
