About the course

Pharmacology examines how drugs and medicines interact at cellular and sub-cellular levels to produce therapeutic or adverse effects. This degree provides a strong mechanistic understanding of bioactive substances, especially those for treating human diseases, equipping students with skills valued in academia and industry for biomedical research and product development. Students may opt for a four-year extended programme featuring a Professional Placement Year (PPY) in Year 3.Graduates pursue postgraduate research training in academia or industry, careers in pharmaceuticals or biomedicine, or, if qualified, the Cardiff University four-year Graduate Entry Medicine (GEM) programme upon BSc completion—no mid-course transfer to Medicine is possible. Taught by science and medically qualified staff, the course integrates basic principles with clinically relevant applications to develop research-trained scientists.
