About the course

This degree programme provides an interdisciplinary opportunity to explore Criminology and Social Policy within the social sciences. Criminology investigates criminalisation, victimisation, and societal responses to crime and disorder, drawing on sociological, psychological, and political perspectives to understand crime control.Social Policy examines how societies address human needs and promote wellbeing, including debates on policy goals, responsibilities, and social justice. Students will develop skills in evaluating evidence, applying theories, and objectively analysing policies, using diverse methods to address challenges like crime, justice, and sustainability. Distinctive features include learning from leading criminologists with strong links to institutions such as police and government, studying in a top-ranked school for research quality, involvement of research-active staff, emphasis on independent learning, and a wide range of multidisciplinary modules.
