About the course

Our Sociology BSc equips you with a deep understanding of societal structures, individual responses to change, and the drivers of human behaviour and thought processes. It examines key social issues—such as poverty, unemployment, social conflict, and the impacts of industrial and economic shifts—redefined by individualisation, globalisation, and evolving communication. The first year builds foundational theoretical and methodological knowledge, followed by flexible module choices and a third-year dissertation (theoretical or practical) on your area of interest. Optional fieldtrips to sites like the Barbican, London Migration Museum, and Victoria and Albert Museum apply concepts to real-world contexts. Taught by research-active experts, the four-year programme includes a one-year placement or two six-month placements with organisations such as the Home Office, Disney Channel, and international roles in Ghana, fostering transferable skills and employability.
