Specialising in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) equips you with skills to understand user experience (UX) and design systems that meet user needs. Through theory and practical application, you will assess organisational challenges, develop dynamic processes for efficient information systems, and adapt to business evolution. Key modules include software development and management, usability engineering, process modelling, e-business, social media, Web 2.0 technologies, and simulation modelling. The flexible programme allows gradual specialisation, with transfers between Computer Science and Business Computing possible until Year 2 start, and specialisms until Year 3. One-third of each year is project-based, featuring team software builds in Years 1-2, an individual final-year project, and showcasing at the Made in Brunel event with awards from Cisco, Sky, and Xerox. A year-long placement between Years 2-3 enhances employability, with graduates joining Accenture, Microsoft, and Barclays. Accredited by the British Computer Society for CITP registration, the department holds Athena SWAN Bronze status and offers Women in Engineering and Computing mentoring.
