About the course

The Brunel Automotive Engineering BEng programme equips students passionate about motor vehicles with specialised expertise for careers in the dynamic automotive sector. It provides a strong foundation in mechanical engineering fundamentals, including mathematics, engineering science, and design, alongside in-depth knowledge of current and emerging automotive systems. Students explore all facets of vehicle development and manufacturing, from design and performance to engine, transmission, materials, structures, and safety. Hands-on experience in troubleshooting engineering issues is gained through access to advanced facilities, such as the Centre for Advanced Powertrain and Fuels (CAPF), which focuses on reducing emissions and enhancing fuel efficiency. State-of-the-art laboratories, motorsport workshops, and industry-standard software support learning. The programme offers flexible study options: a three-year full-time route or a four-year option with a professional placement. It is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), meeting requirements for Incorporated Engineer (IEng) registration and partially for Chartered Engineer (CEng). This internationally recognised qualification prepares graduates for leading roles in the evolving automotive industry, where demand for skilled engineers is growing. Typical modules include Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer, Vehicle Dynamics and Aerodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, and Technologies for Future Transport.
