Sociology examines social life's foundations and key societal challenges, including inequality, racism, globalisation, and migration, with a focus on media's influence, such as poverty portrayals and celebrity culture. Lecturers' cutting-edge research on global and local issues informs teaching. This four-year programme includes two six-month placements or one year-long placement, with fieldwork options worldwide—from refugees in Athens to mother-toddler groups in London. Around half of anthropology students undertake overseas placements in India, Nepal, Australia, South Africa, Papua New Guinea, or Jamaica; UK destinations include the Royal Anthropological Institute, Amnesty International, and the Department of Health.
