English Language and Literature, BA (Hons)

English Language and Literature degrees equip graduates with a broad array of skills that are in high demand among employers. The BA (Hons) in English Language and Literature fosters interdisciplinary expertise in both fields, as well as the broader humanities. Students will enhance their critical abilities in reading and analysis, deepen their understanding of language and literature, and refine skills in writing, close reading, research, and persuasive argumentation. Language studies apply to real-world and professional contexts, improving knowledge of communication processes, while literature studies explore major periods, movements, and genres. The programme allows for personalised study based on individual interests.An optional professional placement year is available, enabling students to spend a full year with an employer after their second year, providing valuable career insights. Some participants even secure subsequent employment with the same organisation. To pursue this, students must identify a relevant placement, leveraging the university's extensive employer networks and careers support. Upon securing a placement, they can transfer to the placement version of the course, though fees equivalent to 20% of the full-time rate apply during that year.
