Music
More about Music
“Music has charms to soothe the savage beast”. The pursuit and study of music will no doubt put you up the cultured literati chain in society. Music degrees can vary enormously with some schools offering a thorough education in traditional classical music while other schools cater more to popular music or jazz interests and music technology.
At the heart is the study of music’s composition and performance. Therefore, a majority of universities will require students to have reached a certain level of competence in vocal or instrumental skills, as well as mastery of musical interpretation and composition.
You will be able to develop your musical skills to a higher level and learn about the inner workings of music through music theory, or probe the cultural richness of music in the European tradition. You will also learn to perform, present your ideas, and to organize and realize written or practical projects. Given the demands of the course, a strong foundation in music is often a prerequisite for enrolment into a music undergraduate course.
Music, like all of the arts, has a remarkable history. A concentration in music history means you’ll explore the historical evolution of music, from the classical to the contemporary. In the process you’ll gain a greater appreciation for the varied forms and functions of music in society.
