Marine Engineering
More about Marine Engineering
Marine Engineering is an arm of Engineering that deals with naval architecture and science as well as the construction of nautical vessels and marine structures such as boats, ships, submarines and oil rigs.
Responsible for a ship’s (or maritime structure’s ) technical integrity and management, marine engineers are in charge of a vessel/maritime structure’s machinery, such as its engines and turbines, and the development, design and maintenance of electrical, mechanical, fluid and control systems on board the vessel/maritime structure.
As a Marine Engineering undergraduate, you will be highly exposed to principles and technical work grounded in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, and will need to have a good understanding of applied mathematics.
Career-wise, you will not only be confined to ships or shipyards. You will be able to find positions which suit your academic qualifications in oil/energy companies such as Shell, port authorities, research outfits and consultancies, among others.
If you enjoy all things nautical and have a penchant for engineering and would like to be part of the maritime and naval industry, set sail towards your future with a degree in Marine Engineering!
