More about History
“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it”. The study of History lets you look at the past to understand the present fully and hopefully avoid the same pitfalls in the future.
History is the study of all things past that involves humans -- individually and collectively. You will examine politics, economics, culture, religion, social and gender issues. Although you will be able to choose the periods that you study, you will always touch on all these themes.
The study of History will allow you to learn the facts, but more importantly it will give you the tools to evaluate, argue and debate. It will also help you develop a sense of the past and empathy for how societies and values have developed.
As a student of History, you will be adept at distinguishing patterns in information. You will specifically identify “change”: why changes occur at particular times in particular places, why other things stay the same, what triggers change, and how individuals and groups deal with change.
“Our present and future mirrors our past”. As a student of History, your knowledge of history coupled with the ability to present historical facts clearly and concisely in relation to the present (or future) will be make you ideal for careers in the legal profession, management, the civil service, diplomatic services, business, public relations and journalism and the media.
