More about Chemical Engineering
If you love chemistry and building things, then you will love Chemical Engineering. While chemists develop new compounds and determine the structures and properties of things that already exist, Chemical Engineers emphasize the commercial applications of chemical reactions; it is relevant as it involves harnessing chemical reactions to produce things people want.
Science and Mathematics will be the core ingredients to Chemical Engineering, but you will be required to be innovative and know how to use your creative flair within a legal and ethical framework, and within a specific budget.
Chemical Engineers need to look at how practical elements of chemistry can be used to manufacture goods – and when you think about it, chemical engineering has played a part in the production of most things you use on a daily basis, from the toothpaste you used on your teeth this morning to the petrol you put in your car.
As a student of Chemical Engineering you will be schooled in the theoretical and practical steps on bringing an idea into reality from drawing board to the real world’s marketplace. You will know how to work within a budget, be numerate, and acquire good computing skills. Engineering will involve plenty of teamwork, so you will acquire the ability to argue your ideas, analyze those of others and work towards a common goal.
