About the course

The BEng (Hons) Aerospace Engineering with Pilot Studies programme has been developed to address the growing need for skilled aerospace engineers, incorporating input from regional industry partners. Accredited by the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS), it equips students with essential industry-relevant skills and attributes to become future technical experts and leaders. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in aerospace principles, including materials, manufacturing, stress, dynamics, energy, and thermodynamics. The second year allows specialisation through pathways in systems, design, and manufacturing, complemented by practical flight training in areas such as navigation, aviation safety, aircraft instruments, and regulations (additional costs may apply).Students enhance their industry knowledge via factory tours, professional briefings from leading organisations, and placements with partners like Airbus, Rolls-Royce, GE Aviation, and Leonardo Helicopters. This hands-on experience fosters valuable skills, preparing graduates for dynamic roles in the aerospace sector. Career opportunities include designing and manufacturing civil and military aircraft, as well as working with helicopters and jet engines. The programme is recognised by professional bodies such as the Engineering Council and the Royal Aeronautical Society, ensuring the qualification's industry-wide credibility.
