About the course

The BA (Hons) Social Work course provides the foundational pathway to becoming a registered social worker, enabling graduates to apply for registration with Social Work England. This program focuses on improving lives, protecting vulnerable individuals in difficult circumstances, and promoting fairness. Social workers support diverse groups, including those with learning difficulties, children and families, older adults, individuals facing substance misuse, mental health challenges, or disabilities. The course is delivered through workshops, lectures, group activities, computer-based learning, and independent study, with assessments including projects, written assignments, portfolios, and exams. Students receive one-to-one academic support and explore social work roles, legislation, theory, ethics, and values. Practical learning is emphasized, with about half the program dedicated to work placements, fostering skills in problem-solving, communication, teamwork, patience, law, partnership, assessment, intervention, and issues related to mental health and disability. Note that this course does not award Qualified Teacher Status.
