Philosophy Ethics and Religion, BA (Hons)

The BA in Philosophy, Ethics and Religion at Southampton offers an exploration of enduring questions that have intrigued thinkers for centuries, such as how to live ethically, the limits of knowledge, and the justification of religious beliefs in society. Students will gain insights into key philosophical debates on ethics, reason, responsibility, global poverty, technology, and moral judgments. Through reasoned argument and critical analysis, participants develop skills in critical thinking, perspective-taking, idea organization, and collaboration—attributes highly valued by employers. Advanced digital tools, including virtual reality and immersive audiovisual centres, supported by expert staff, enhance research and learning experiences. *Subject to review for September 2024 entry.*The programme covers diverse topics in philosophy, ethics, and religion, allowing students to customize their studies with modules like Ethics, Existentialism, Faith and Reason, Freedom and Responsibility, Mind and World, and Reason and Argument. Learning occurs via lectures, tutorials, coursework, projects, and independent study. Assessment includes essays, reports, presentations, exams, and dissertations, with ongoing feedback from academic tutors to support improvement.
