The shift to digital media has created profound changes in the ways we understand the world around us. This degree will ask you to think about the ways in which digital cultures have changed the way we live and work, how we relate to the environment and to each other, how digital platforms have transformed how audiences now produce and consume film, television, and other media. Alongside, textual and historical approaches to screen media, you will develop media production skills, preparing you for the widespread use of audio-visual communication in contemporary workplaces and industries.This programme offers you the chance to become a knowledgeable and independent student of screen media and their related industries. You will have the opportunity to:• Combine film with the study of contemporary television programmes and digital media • Think about the profound changes online life is bringing to our lives • Examine their social, historical and cultural contexts and related theoretical ideas • Enjoy cutting edge research from leading specialists on modules that include: o Contexts and Histories o Culture and Identity o Practices and Provocations • Explore a diverse collection of films in the University libraries to support your studyYou will have the opportunity to study abroad for either a semester or a full year with one of our partner institutions worldwide as part of this programme. Students who choose to spend a semester abroad will continue their Part 2 curriculum at the partner university. Part 3 of the programme will then be completed at Southampton.
