Course summary

The shift to digital media has created profound changes in the ways we understand the world around us. This degree will ask you to think about the ways in which digital cultures have changed the way we live and work, how we relate to the environment and to each other, how digital platforms have transformed how audiences now produce and consume film, television, and other media. We are ranked 11th in the UK for Communication and Media Studies*This programme offers you the chance to become a knowledgeable and independent student of screen media and their related industries. You'll learn about:

  • film, TV and digital media across different social, historical and cultural contexts, and from significant theoretical perspectives
  • how digital media have affected our relationship with the environment and each other
  • how digital platforms have transformed the way audiences produce and consume film, TV and other media
  • how the screen industries work through practical and creative tasks such as video essays and visualising data

The learning and assessment activities for this course include the following:The programme is progressively structured to develop transferable skills and those of research (information retrieval), formal writing and presentation. It also inludes, practical forms of assessment such as video essays and data visualisation that involve the processes of planning, producing, reviewing and revising individually, or as part of a group, to simulate workplace and industrial activity.
