English and History at Southampton offers you the opportunity to think about literature and history in absorbing and productive ways.You could read fiction from Africa to help you understand European political history. You could gain new insights into the reign of James I by immersing yourself in the theatre of his time. A year abroad will enhance your studies and let you experience a new culture. Partnerships with Chawton House, owned by Jane Austen’s family, and now home to a unique collection of women’s writing, and the John Hansard Gallery will give you unrivalled access to archives and artworks. You will also have access to one of the largest Jewish document centres in Europe, the Parkes Archive. Our Digital Humanities facilities will allow you to study and research through cutting edge technology, such as virtual reality, 3D scanners and printers, and a 360 degree fully immersive audio-visual centre.Our year abroad partner universities in Europe include Barcelona, Prague, Frankfurt, Lausanne.
