Our MEng Electrical Engineering degree offers an optional year in industry after Year 2 or 3, assessed by academics and experts, providing a competitive advantage by linking academic knowledge to real-world applications. This five-year program builds on the BEng, developing cross-disciplinary skills for advanced topics like bionanotechnology and high-voltage engineering. You'll gain analytical expertise through state-of-the-art facilities, including high-voltage labs and a £100m clean room complex, while working on individual projects with research groups. Ranked in the UK top 5 for Electrical and Electronic Engineering, the course prepares graduates for diverse careers through strong employer ties, career support like fairs and incubators, and accreditation by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). The first two years cover core modules such as circuits and mathematics, with later years offering optional modules and an individual project. Assessment includes exams, tests, presentations, and group work, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience.
This five-year MEng programme including a year in industry will enable you to pursue a career in any area of the electrical engineering industry. It has been designed to maximise student choice by allowing you to tailor the degree structure to suit your own interests. During the first two years you will undertake a series of core modules, for example Circuits, Electronic Systems, Programming, Digital Systems and Devices, Fields, Forces and Materials, and Mathematics. In your third and fourth years you can choose from a wide range of optional modules that reflect the specialist areas of electrical engineering that will take you to the leading edge of technology sought by industry.
