About the course

This three-year Biology and Marine Biology degree explores living organisms from molecular levels to ecosystems, emphasizing an evolutionary perspective. Students engage in lectures, laboratory work, and fieldwork in the UK and abroad, preparing for careers in research, conservation, fisheries, and habitat management. Based at the National Oceanography Centre Southampton, a global leader in ocean science, the programme offers a balanced curriculum with hands-on experience on the 22m research vessel R.V. Callista. It equips graduates for diverse higher degrees and professions, with accreditation from the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology, and 98% of Ocean and Earth Science graduates in employment or further study 15 months post-graduation.Modules span topics like Data Literacy & Analysis, Earth & Ocean Systems, and Fundamentals of Biochemistry, allowing customization to personal interests. Assessment includes coursework, lab reports, essays, individual and group projects, oral presentations, and written exams, fostering a broad range of skills for professional success.
