About the course

This four-year integrated master's programme in audiology provides comprehensive knowledge and clinical skills essential for a career in audiology healthcare. From the outset, students develop academic, professional, and employability abilities through training by leading clinicians and researchers at the UK's only university offering in-house audiology and auditory implant services. Practical sessions in a dedicated skills lab, combined with a 27-week placement starting at the end of year two, ensure hands-on experience. The fourth year focuses on advancing scientific and leadership skills via optional modules and in-depth research in areas of interest, alongside career support through clinical and professional portfolios and industry events.The curriculum includes modules such as Clinical and Professional Practice in Audiology across all years, with placements and options in paediatric audiology or auditory implants. Assessment methods encompass written exams, oral presentations, group projects, OSCEs, and professional portfolios. The programme is accredited by the Academy of Healthcare Science, British Society of Hearing Aid Audiologists, and Health and Care Professions Council, ensuring industry recognition.

What you will learn

Year One: Clinical and Professional Practice in Audiology I, Audiology Clinical Placement I, An Introduction to Professional Practice, Biopsychosocial Basis of Audiology, Introduction to Hearing Science and Technology. Year Two: Clinical and Professional Practice in Audiology II, Audiology Clinical Placement II, Facilitating Effective Auditory Rehabilitation I & II, plus two optional modules from across the University. Year Three: Individual Project plus Clinical and Professional Practice in Audiology III, Audiology Clinical Placement III, plus optional modules from Introduction to Paediatric Audiology or Paediatric Audiology. Year Four: Applied Research Methods, Research Project, plus related optional modules from audiology or from across the University. Example topics include: the assessment and management of vestibular disorders; the physiology and psychology of hearing; fundamentals of auditory implants.
