The BA Archaeology programme examines the evolution of human societies, from ancient civilisations like the Aztecs, Mayans, Egyptians, Romans, and medieval cultures, to understand the origins of civilisation, societal changes, and modern human diversity. Ranked 5th in the UK for Archaeology by the Complete University Guide 2024, the course offers a flexible modular structure, allowing students to focus on preferred topics while gaining at least three weeks of hands-on fieldwork experience, including excavations and artefact collection.Students can enhance their studies with a year abroad at institutions such as the University of Malta or Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona, fostering career development through international exposure. Access to advanced digital humanities facilities, including virtual reality and 3D technology, supports innovative research. The curriculum includes modules like Ancient and Medieval Worlds and Maritime Archaeology, with learning assessed via exams, essays, projects, and dissertations, alongside personalised academic support.
