This course encompasses the fundamental principles of aeronautics and astronautics, emphasizing high-speed aircraft and spacecraft operations within Earth's atmosphere and beyond. The initial two years of our Aeronautics and Astronautics programs are identical, concentrating on essential engineering disciplines including aerodynamics, propulsion systems, flight mechanics, fluid dynamics, and control systems. This foundation equips students with the expertise needed for designing and operating aerial vehicles and spacecraft. In the third year, modules advance knowledge of aircraft design and its environmental implications, complemented by an individual project that integrates prior learning. Students benefit from exceptional facilities, such as dedicated design studios and workshops, the UK's largest wind tunnel, cutting-edge jet engine and space propulsion labs, a flight simulator, and a professional manufacturing center. The optional Industrial Placement Year boosts employability through a paid, year-long position in an engineering firm, applying early-degree skills to foster professional development for post-graduation engineering careers. Our programs hold full accreditation from the Royal Aeronautical Society and Institution of Mechanical Engineers, providing a pathway to chartered status.
