About the course

Our joint honours BA in Philosophy and Politics encourages exploration of fundamental concepts such as truth, reality, ethics, and political theory. At the University of Reading, philosophy studies will develop your logical reasoning, critical analysis skills, and ability to challenge ideas. You will gain a comprehensive understanding of key principles, texts, and figures in philosophy, taught by experts specialising in moral philosophy, mind, and language. The first year introduces essential skills, while later years allow in-depth study of topics like Contemporary Political Philosophy, the History of Political Philosophy, and non-Western traditions such as Indian philosophy.Politics modules provide a strong foundation in political ideas, democratic processes, and specialised areas including British government, European integration, and political thinking. Classes are conducted in small, interactive seminars to foster discussion and ensure personalised attention. All students are encouraged to pursue work placements, with options to study abroad in your second or final year.
