About the course

Our BA in Philosophy and Classical Studies at the University of Reading invites you to explore core concepts of truth, reality, ethics, and the ancient worlds of Greece and Rome. Through hands-on engagement with our exceptional collection of antiquities, you will develop critical thinking skills, logical reasoning, and the ability to evaluate arguments rigorously. Taught by experts in moral philosophy, mind, and language, the programme features small class sizes for personalised attention, alongside studies in ancient literature, history, and culture, including translated texts, poetry, tragedy, and their influence on modern society. In Classical Studies, you will examine themes in art, performance, and media such as films, while optional Latin and Greek modules deepen your understanding. The curriculum encourages practical placements to apply your knowledge in real-world settings, fostering valuable experience. Core modules, subject to approval, include Reason and Argument, Great Works in Philosophy, and topics in Greek history, with further details available via our website.
