About the course

Study a modern language, and explore a variety of writers from across the globe, with our BA Modern Languages and English Literature degree.Study one of our four core languages – French, German, Italian or Spanish – alongside your studies in international relations. Develop your skills as a versatile linguist through speaking, listening, writing, learning grammar, and translating – with the aim of becoming fluent in your chosen language. Students also have the opportunity to pick up one of our additional languages– Arabic, British Sign Language, Chinese (Mandarin), Japanese, Modern Greek and Russian.We have expertise in everything from Shakespeare's playhouses to children's literature, from medieval fantasy literature to modern graphic novels. You'll develop advanced skills in literary analysis before focusing on the areas that interest you most in your second and third years.
