About the course

Our flexible BSc Mathematics degree enables you to build essential skills and knowledge while customising your studies to focus on areas of mathematics that inspire you most. By joining a community of dedicated mathematicians, you can leverage a broad selection of modules to play to your strengths and align your learning with career goals. At a university ranked first in the UK for environmental and ethical performance (People and Planet University League 2023/24) and recipient of the Times Higher Education award for Outstanding Contribution to Environmental Leadership in 2023, this programme also meets the educational criteria for the Chartered Mathematician designation from the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications, subject to further professional experience. In your first two years, you will explore core topics including algebra, analysis, calculus, and differential equations, with options to select modules from other departments, such as climate change or languages. The degree incorporates a year-long work placement between your second and final year, offering opportunities in fields like finance, statistics, or modelling, with support from a dedicated placements officer. Core modules may include Real Analysis I, Calculus, Foundations of Mathematics, Linear Algebra, and Mathematical Communication, though availability is subject to final approval. For details, visit the programme page.
