About the course

You'll learn from experts from across the University. In addition to social scientists in the Department of International Development within the School of Agriculture, Policy and Development, these include academics from Geography, Economics, Politics, and the Henley Business School. Many of our lecturers are members of the Global Development Division and research associates of the internationally renowned Walker Institute for Climate System Research and the Institute for Food, Nutrition and Health. Our staff are all active researchers, working on some of the key challenges that face the world today. You can study this degree over four years with a placement year, for example, at an aid agency, charity, non-governmental organisation or relevant government department at home or abroad. You are also encouraged to consider a study abroad experience as part of your degree. The University has a wide range of exchange partners in Europe and across the world in Australia, Canada and the USA. We use a variety of teaching methods in our modules which are designed to help you explore the world around you through case studies, stories and experiential learning. Acting as a Development Consultant, exploring the crucial role of power in development, developing your practical skills in your placement module – these are just some of the exciting challenges that you will engage with on the course. For more information, please visit the programme page: https://www.reading.ac.uk/ready-to-study/study/subject-area/international-development-ug/bsc-international-development.
