About the course

Our BA in History and Economics at the University of Reading allows students to examine the cultures and societies that have shaped history while addressing key economic issues influencing the modern world. The programme covers a broad spectrum of historical regions and topics, from Europe and Africa to South Asia and the Middle East, including subjects like the Crusades and the Rwanda Crisis. Based on the 2023 National Student Survey, 100% of respondents praised the History Department's teaching clarity. In economics, the emphasis is on practical applications and societal connections, with reduced focus on advanced maths and statistical techniques, alongside support for essential skills. Core topics include business, policy, economic history, and climate change economics.Core modules for 2025/26, pending final approval, encompass Perspectives in History, Principles of Economics, Quantitative Methods and Data Analysis, Intermediate Microeconomics, Intermediate Macroeconomics, and a dissertation in either field. Optional modules are subject to availability, with further details available in summer 2024; please consult the programme page for the latest information.
