About the course

On the BA in English Language and Literature, students will deepen their understanding of English as a vibrant, global language while exploring a wide range of literary texts from Britain, America, and beyond. The programme emphasises applying theoretical concepts to real-world scenarios, developing transferable skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, and data analysis. It covers research methods in social sciences, fieldwork techniques, grammar, phonetics, language use in diverse social contexts, child and adult language acquisition, and the evolving impact of media on English.Core modules provisionally approved for 2025/26 include Poetry in English, Theory and Practice of Writing, Sounds, Grammar and Meaning, English Language and Society, and English Grammar and Phonology. These are subject to final university approval and possible changes. Optional modules may not be available to all students, with further details on module content to be released in summer 2024.
