About the course

Our BA in Art and Philosophy at the University of Reading fosters independent artistic practice, international experiences, and a deep understanding of contemporary art theories through an interdisciplinary lens with philosophy. Students join a dynamic community at the Reading School of Art, exploring diverse media, experimenting with innovative forms, and developing professionally in accessible studios with expert guidance. Opportunities include museum visits, exhibitions, public commissions, and debates led by internationally recognised artists, curators, and researchers. The philosophy component equips students with critical thinking skills, logical reasoning, and knowledge of key principles, texts, and figures, with a focus on moral philosophy, mind, and language, plus non-Western traditions like Indian philosophy. Core modules, subject to approval for 2025/26, include Art Studio, Drawing, Reason and Argument, and Great Works in Philosophy. For further details, visit the programme page.
