Our BA in Ancient History offers an in-depth exploration of the cultures of ancient Greece and Rome, including their history, societies, achievements, beliefs, and values, and their lasting influence on the modern world. Spanning from 2000 BC to 600 AD across parts of Africa, Asia, and Europe, the programme examines these civilisations in political, literary, social, cultural, and religious contexts. This flexible course allows students to select from a wide array of research-led subjects, with 95% of our research recognised as internationally excellent (REF 2021) and 100% of students rating teaching staff highly for explanations (National Student Survey 2023).Core modules include Greek History: War, Society, and Change in the Archaic Age; Roman History: The Rise and Fall of the Republic; Texts, Readers and Writers; and The Past in the Present.
