Course summary

Our industry-recognised BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying course will help you develop knowledge and skills in the commercial and financial management of construction projects. Through lectures, tutorials with industry partners, real assessments and projects briefs, and an optional year-long paid industry placement, you will learn the requirements for managing risk and proving value for a variety of clients, taking into account sustainable and ethical dimensions.Flexible pathways: this course is designed around a common first year with BSc (Hons) Building Surveying and BSc (Hons) Construction Project Management, allowing you to transfer to these courses after successful completion of Year 1.Gain industry experience with the option to take part in a year-long, paid work placement in a leading surveying company in the UK or abroad.Learn using industry-standard facilities, resources and equipment, including a designated design studio space, specialist laboratories (materials and immersive visualisation) and Mac and PC suites with industry-standard software (such as Revit, AutoCAD, MS Project and BCIS database). Year 1: Understand the technologies, services, construction methods and materials used in domestic buildings. Gain knowledge in the ICT tools needed to deliver construction projects. You will work on an industry-led group project to design an energy-efficient housing development. Year 2: Develop specialist skills to predict and manage costs of developments and the contractual frameworks that lead to successful projects. You will work on an industry-led group project to design or retrofit a complex high-rise building. Placement year (optional): Boost your studies with a paid year-long placement in a leading surveying company in the UK or abroad. Final year: Gain a specialist understanding of quantity surveying. Consider the value that built environment projects can bring over their lifetime. You will undertake a research dissertation on a topic of your choice.
