Psychology with Early Childhood Studies, BSc (Hons), with industry placement

The formative years of childhood profoundly influence cognitive, emotional, and social development, shaping lifelong behavior, understanding, and success. This BPS-accredited joint degree integrates hands-on studies in social psychology, health, cognitive development, and neuroscience with early years topics like play, education, and children's societal roles. It equips students with practical skills and versatile knowledge for impactful careers in psychology, education, play therapy, family support, and beyond, while fostering transferable abilities such as critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and data analysis. Opportunities for postgraduate study lead to specialized roles like clinical, educational, forensic, or organizational psychologist.In Year 1, students explore core psychology theories—learning, social, developmental, clinical, cognitive, and physiological—while building research, IT, communication, and critical thinking skills, alongside sociology of early childhood and play's role in learning. Year 2 emphasizes research and practical experience through experiment design, deepening knowledge in core psychology areas and early language development. An optional Year 3 placement offers real-world application and a professional certificate. The final year allows specialization in four of sixteen advanced topics (e.g., developmental, health, clinical, neuropsychology), a supervised research project with active researcher staff, and studies on childhood risk and historical models of childhood.
