This course equips motivated individuals with a deep understanding of ocean processes to support effective marine management and conservation. Ranked in the top 15 in the UK and top 100 globally for Earth and Marine Sciences (QS 2023), it develops practical skills for data collection and analysis, alongside advanced knowledge of ocean dynamics. Students engage in fieldwork in Plymouth Sound, access high-specification instrumentation, and explore optional topics like meteorology, remote sensing, and marine conservation, preparing for careers in oceanography, coastal management, or renewable energy.The programme begins with foundational studies in oceanography, building scientific knowledge and practical abilities through field activities. In later years, students deepen expertise in physical processes, propose research projects, and undertake advanced training, including a residential field trip. Options include industrial placements, scientific diving, and modules on climate science or marine pollution, culminating in an individual research project.
