About the course

This MSc Midwifery (Shortened) programme enables registered Adult Nurses (NMC) with a relevant degree to study midwifery at Masters level. Over two years, with 45 weeks of learning annually (50% clinical placement), it equips students with essential knowledge, skills, interpersonal and cultural competence to deliver individualised care, promoting continuity, personalisation and choice for childbearing women and families.Delivered via blended learning, it suits self-motivated students undertaking online theory with local tutor support from the University of Plymouth team, alongside weekly placements in South West England maternity units. Year one focuses on needs assessment, core skills and research application; year two includes a project and complex care (including NIPE). Graduates earn an MSc, NMC midwife registration, and qualify as autonomous practitioners UK-wide or globally, with PhD pathways.
