About the course

This programme enables registered Adult Nurses (NMC) with a relevant degree to pursue Midwifery at Masters level. It equips students with the knowledge, skills, interpersonal and cultural competence to deliver individualised care, promoting continuity, personalisation and choice for childbearing women and families. Graduates earn an MSc Midwifery (Shortened) and NMC midwife registration eligibility. The two-year course features 45 weeks of learning annually, with 50% in clinical placements across South West England maternity units, supported by practice supervisors to meet NMC proficiency standards. University of Plymouth's dedicated midwifery lecturers and professors facilitate learning. Year one includes needs assessment, essential skills and theory/research application; year two covers a research/practice project and complex needs support, including NIPE. Graduates practise autonomously across the UK and globally, prepared for PhD study.
