About the course

This MSc Midwifery (Pre-Registration) programme enables graduates with a relevant degree to study midwifery at Masters level. It equips students with the knowledge, skills, interpersonal and cultural competencies needed to enhance the health of childbearing women and families through individualised care, continuity, personalisation and choice.Over three years, with 45 weeks of learning annually (50% clinical placements in South West England maternity units), students meet NMC proficiency standards under practice supervisor guidance. Supported by University of Plymouth's expert midwifery lecturers, the curriculum progresses from foundational professional skills, clinical practice, health factors, medication and research (Year 1), to advanced theory application (Year 2), culminating in a research project and complex care including NIPE (Year 3). Graduates register with the NMC, practise autonomously worldwide and pursue PhD studies.
