Geosciences are vital for shaping our planet's future. Geologists apply knowledge of Earth's evolution and physical, chemical, and biological processes to pioneer sustainable solutions. Core modules cover volcanic and seismic hazards, clean energy transitions, and long-term environmental change, while BSc Geology students gain practical insights into tectonics, rocks, minerals, structures, and fossils. New modules tackle sustainability challenges, including natural hazard risk reduction, cleaner energy, and climate mitigation. Approachable staff deliver cutting-edge research through lectures, tutorials, practicals, and field courses.Students master field and lab techniques via extensive local and overseas fieldwork (e.g., Death Valley, Italy, Sicily), with options for a second-year study abroad in Europe, Canada, Australia, USA, or elsewhere; a placement year with geological employers; LABplus access; personal tutoring; and PALS mentoring. Located near the sea, Dartmoor, and two UNESCO geological sites, the programme provides free field safety equipment and Geological Society accreditation towards Chartered Geologist status, fostering diverse careers in a respectful environment.
