Are you fascinated by the vast diversity of animal life on Earth and committed to its conservation? This course, accredited by the Royal Society of Biology, inspires students through comprehensive study of animals, including humans, from DNA to ecosystem roles. Tailor your learning with optional modules led by experts, and consider advancing to a four-year integrated master's (MSci) based on second-year performance.Practical components begin in the first semester, offering hands-on experience in laboratory and field techniques. Highlights include behavioural ecology fieldwork in Portugal, biodiversity studies in France, and final-year projects on topics like behaviour, conservation, and evolution. In the third year, undertake a year-long research project under academic guidance, developing advanced and transferable skills. Alongside core modules, choose from optional ones each year, starting with a broad introduction to zoology and biology in the first year, progressing to advanced topics such as ecology, immunology, and evolutionary biology in the second. The third year focuses on independent zoological investigations with expert scientists.
There are a range of optional modules to choose from in every year of the course. You will study these alongside core modules. The first year provides a broad introduction to zoology and biology. You'll study to the biology of animals and the biochemical, evolutionary and genetic processes that underlie their biology. In the second year, more advanced modules are available in topics such as ecology, immunology, and evolutionary biology of animals. You'll work on a practical research project in the third year, as well as selecting optional modules. The research project allows you to carry out your own zoological investigation, alongside expert research scientists.
