The veterinary gateway year is designed to enhance access to veterinary medicine by providing foundational knowledge in animal biology, chemistry, animal behaviour, and care. Through integrated modules, students explore how these disciplines interconnect, equipping them with essential skills for progression. Additionally, the program fosters an understanding of relevant industries, the societal role of animals, and practical animal handling techniques.Upon successful completion of the gateway year, students will automatically advance to the five-year veterinary medicine and surgery course. This pathway includes studying core sciences such as cell structure, biochemistry, health and disease, and chemistry topics like compounds, reactions, atomic structures, and bonding, all within five dedicated modules.
During the gateway year you'll study the science that underpins animal biology and chemistry. Biology topics include cell structure, biochemistry, health and disease. Chemistry topics include compounds, reactions, atomic structures and bonding. You'll also learn about animal behaviour and care, gain an understanding of relevant industries, develop an appreciation of the role of animals in society and practice your animal handling skills.
