About the course

This course is designed for dedicated language enthusiasts, offering the chance to study three languages and foster global communication while immersing in diverse cultures. We provide comprehensive guidance to help you achieve fluency, starting from beginners' level if needed, in preparation for a transformative year abroad. Students often highlight this year as the program's pinnacle, as it enhances independence and confidence through full cultural immersion.Available languages include French, German, Portuguese (beginners only), Russian, Serbian/Croatian (beginners only), and Spanish. For those interested in two languages, consider our Modern Languages BA. The program features core modules in years one and two, tailored to your starting level. Year three involves spending time in the relevant countries for study, teaching via the British Council, or work placements, followed by year four back at Nottingham with advanced core modules.

What you will learn

Depending on the languages you choose and the level you start from there are certain core modules you have to take each year. You will spend years one and two focusing on core modules for your pathway of choice. Your core modules will depend on whether you're a beginner or post-A level in your language of choice. In year three, you will divide your time between the three countries where your chosen languages are spoken. Depending on where your placement is, you could study at one of our exchange universities, teach on the British Council assistantship programme, or undertake a work placement with a company. In year four, you will come back to Nottingham, and both beginners and post-A level pathways involve the same core modules for their chosen languages.
