This course invites ambitious individuals to advance engineering solutions for enhanced sustainability and efficiency in modern industry. By integrating initiative, numeracy, and in-depth knowledge, participants will explore mechanical engineering's impact across sectors like aerospace, manufacturing, medicine, renewable energy, and Formula 1. Daily life benefits from its innovations, from transportation to food processing. Students gain access to state-of-the-art facilities, including robotics and 3D printing, and apply skills through individual and group projects. The programme shares a common foundation in engineering science and design with manufacturing engineering for the first two years, covering thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, solid mechanics, dynamics, and electro-mechanical systems. The second year is spent at campuses in China or Malaysia, with teaching in English and full accreditation. In the third year, specialisation in mechanical engineering includes a group design project, while the fourth year features a major individual project, advanced modules, and optional subjects tailored to specific interests.
The first two years provide a good grounding in the broad fundamentals of mechanical engineering science and engineering design. The science subjects studied include thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, solid mechanics, dynamics and electro-mechanical systems. During your second year you will study at either our China or Malaysia campus. A third of your third year will be spent on a group design-and-make project. In year four, a major individual project makes up a third of your studies. This may involve computational and or experimental investigations linked to your chosen subject specialisms. You will also study compulsory modules in advanced engineering topics along with a range of optional modules, appropriate to the subject specialisms you have selected
