About the course

Are you intrigued by concepts like infinity and symmetry? This BSc Mathematics (International Study) programme equips you with essential problem-solving and analytical skills for diverse careers. You'll explore specialised modules in areas such as epidemic modelling, statistical machine learning, and mathematical finance, drawing from our academics' research in medicine, biotechnology, and industry applications. The co-created curriculum emphasises collaboration, blending theoretical mathematics with practical projects, group work, and presentations to prepare you for real-world challenges. In the first year, you'll build a foundation in calculus, statistics, and pure/applied mathematics. Subsequent years allow specialisation in topics like differential equations and quantum mechanics, with a third year abroad enhancing your global perspective and employability. Graduates pursue roles in data analytics, finance, and engineering, leveraging transferable skills for management or consultancy. Unique features include guest lectures, peer support, and language learning options, ensuring the course aligns with industry needs.

What you will learn

All students follow a common programme of study for the first year. You will focus on core modules that provide a solid foundation in the main mathematical topics. You'll build on your existing knowledge in areas such as calculus, probability and statistics. There will also be an introduction to key mathematical concepts in pure and applied mathematics. During the second year, you'll start to specialise, by choosing from a range of optional modules. There's also the chance to improve your language skills by selecting modules outside of mathematics. Your third year will be spent studying abroad. This time will be spent learning maths and other subjects in a different teaching environment. This can help improve your employability and be a great life experience. You will develop confidence and key skills in communication by studying within a new culture. The final year provides you with even more freedom to choose optional modules in the areas that interest you. From cryptography to quantum theory, or fluid dynamics, you'll have multiple options to choose from. You will study a project module which allows you to consolidate your mathematical knowledge and understanding, whilst gaining experience of working collaboratively to solve complex problems. Please visit the university webpage for full details of the modules available.
