Our BA in Law with French and French Law offers an immersive experience in French culture while providing a comprehensive foundation in English law. The programme includes core modules on topics such as tort, contract, trusts, and criminal law, alongside language development in French. In partnership with the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures, students enhance their speaking and writing skills, culminating in a third-year study abroad at a partner institution in France, such as the University of Toulouse or Université Catholique de Lille. This opportunity allows for advanced language proficiency and exploration of the French legal system, enriching both education and cultural exposure.The curriculum spans four years: Year one covers legal theory, contracts, public law, and introductory French modules. Year two builds on this with criminal law, tort foundations, land ownership, and comparative European legal systems. In year four, students complete modules on trusts, EU law, and additional language options. Graduates pursue diverse careers in law firms, consultancies, and more, with alumni securing roles at organisations like Clifford Chance and PwC. The School of Law fosters a supportive community through societies focused on volunteering and networking.
In year one, you will take core modules in legal theory, contracts, and public law, as well as modules to develop your French speaking and writing. In year two, you will take further core modules covering criminal law, foundations of tort, and land ownership. You will also build on your language skills and compare legal systems as practised in Europe. In your third year, you will attend one of our partner institutions, ie University of Toulouse or Université Catholique de Lille. Teaching will be in French. In year four, you will take the final core modules in the Law of Trusts, the Law of the European Union and core and optional language modules.
