About the course

Our LLB Law programme offers a comprehensive foundation in English law, emphasising professional development through core modules in tort, trusts, contract law, public law, criminal law, EU law, and land law. In the second and final years, students continue with compulsory subjects while selecting from a diverse array of optional modules to specialise in areas of interest. This prepares graduates for careers in law firms, barristers’ chambers, consultancies, and other sectors, with alumni securing roles at organisations like Clifford Chance and PwC. The School of Law fosters a supportive community through societies focused on pro bono work and networking, enhancing both academic excellence and practical experience. For those seeking international exposure, students can apply in their second year to transfer to a four-year programme, including a year abroad at partner institutions in locations such as Australia, Canada, or Europe. The curriculum progresses as follows: first year covers legal theory, contracts, and public law; second year includes criminal law, land law, and EU law with optional modules; and third year focuses on trusts alongside further choices, or an abroad placement for four-year students, before returning for the final year at Nottingham.

What you will learn

In year one, you will take core modules in legal theory, contracts, and public law. You'll explore theoretical perspectives and the practical operation of law and its impact on society. In year two, you'll explore core topics such as criminal law, land law and the law of the European Union. You can choose optional law modules or take up to 20 credits of modules from outside the school. In year three, you will take your final core module, law of trusts, as well as optional law modules and/or modules from outside the school. If selected to transfer to one of our four-year degrees, you will spend your third year at a partner law school in another country. After this, you will return to Nottingham to complete your fourth and final year of study.
