About the course

This course offers a comprehensive exploration of computing systems and software essential for advancing technology in an era of smart devices and sustainable energy. Delivered through individual and group-based labs, students will engage with key subjects including analogue and digital electronics, circuits, systems, computing, communications, and electrical energy applications. In the second year, opportunities exist to study at our China or Malaysia campuses, where the curriculum mirrors that of the UK, taught entirely in English, and includes core modules alongside subject-specific options. By the third year, students can tailor their studies to areas of interest, building on the shared content of the first two years. As BEng graduates, individuals can pursue registration as Incorporated Engineers or advance to Chartered Engineer status, equipping them with expertise for careers in industry or diverse professions. The programme features a common first-year structure covering computer engineering, engineering mathematics, power and energy, and information systems. In the second year, students enhance design skills via lab-based subjects abroad, culminating in a final-year individual project that explores cutting-edge technologies and often contributes to departmental research initiatives.

What you will learn

All students follow a common programme in year one and you will study topics such as computer engineering, engineering mathematics, power and energy and information and systems. In year two, you will study on our campus in China or Malaysia where you will develop your design skills through a variety of lab based subjects. In your final year you will undertake an individual project and study state-of-the-the-art technologies. In many cases this project contributes to the major industrially related programmes undertaken by research groups within the department.
